Roman Valent
Roman was born in former Czechoslovakia. His first photography darkroom was set up on a washing machine in the small bathroom of his home. During the studies of Visual media, at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Roman earned his living by editing, while shooting his own short films, which earned him early recognition at international festivals.
Since then Roman has directed more than 300 commercials, various music videos and shorts. He is a talented artist with an epic approach to storytelling, pursuing the spinning nucleus in every idea.
His global body of work has received numerous international awards and nominations, including honors from the Epica Awards, New York Cresta Awards, PIAF, Golden Award of Montreaux, New York Festivals shortlist, Cannes Lions shortlist, and LIA finalist, among others.
In his photography, he diverges from reality without resorting conceptually to surreal staging. Using long exposure techniques, he reshapes the depiction of the world into a new visual, reflecting how he perceives it in the moment. Camera movements accentuate the lines of the existing scenery, making it more tangible for the viewer. Meanwhile, everything else is softened by the intentional blur of the exposure. What remains is the essence of the atmosphere - colors and shapes that evoke a new reality in the viewer's imagination.
